The husband-and-wife TV hosts featured an “Adopt a Dog Week”-themed segment during the Oct. 12 episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark,” and it was during this broadcast that the couple met their new furry friend, a rescue from a New Jersey-based organization called Pet ResQ Inc.

Ripa and Consuelos immediately fell for the puppy, who was originally named Lucas. The couple quickly gave him a new moniker before he was officially adopted into their household.

“Listen, Mark walked into my dressing room this morning with Lucas in his arms,” Ripa shared with viewers during the broadcast. “And I saw a different you. I saw a kinder, gentler you.”

Ripa, 56, and Consuelos, 55, are already parents to three adult children: Michael, 29, Lola, 25, and Joaquin, 23. They are also pet parents to another dog named Lena. During the show, the couple joked that they needed to “have a chemistry test” to make sure Javi would get along harmoniously with Lena before taking him home for good.

On the Oct. 13 follow-up episode of their morning show, the couple happily revealed they had officially adopted Javi. They added that the initial “meet cute” went well, even if they recognize they are going to have to take things “slow” between the two pups as they get used to each other’s presence in the house.

“We have a new baby. Not living in the house yet. Gotta wait for a couple of medicals, a couple of tests, but we are like expectant parents,” Ripa told viewers. “Like, I started nesting last night. I couldn’t sleep. I started making a nest.”

Although Ripa has yet to detail just what specific changes she has made to their multi-million dollar townhouse to prepare for little Javi’s arrival, a number of home organization professionals have previously noted that there are several practical steps pet owners can take to make their living spaces more pet-friendly. Smart storage solutions for toys and food can help ensure a pet has all they need without overtaking the home with unnecessary clutter, while easy-to-clean surfaces such as washable carpets and furniture covers can help keep the living space smelling fresh and looking immaculate.

It is always an exciting milestone to welcome a new pet home, but for Ripa and Consuelos, Javi’s arrival carried an extra layer of emotional significance.

“I kept thinking about how much Javi reminded me of Chewie,” Ripa shared, referring to the family’s beloved Shih Tzu who sadly passed away in February 2025. “I was thinking, ‘Oh, I bet Chewie sent Javi here for us.’ My beloved dog, who I will never get over and mourn for the rest of my life, sent this little dog here,” she continued.

Once Javi’s final medical tests and clearances are complete, the puppy will have a remarkably impressive property to call home: a $27 million, 7,796-square-foot Upper East Side residence.

In a 2024 Architectural Digest tour, Ripa revealed that she immediately knew the townhouse, which she and Consuelos purchased back in 2013, would become the family’s permanent forever home.

“I was like, ‘It’s perfect, just hand me my toothbrush,’” she recalled of first seeing the space. “We’ve moved several times in our lives, but no matter where we go, for me, this is my forever home. When I walked in here, I was like, ‘This is the final place where I will live.’ I love this house so much.”

Since moving into the luxurious property more than a decade ago, the couple has fashioned the lavish abode in a style that represents a sophisticated mix of art deco and modern design. It features vintage furniture alongside custom-designed storage pieces that discreetly tuck away shoes and other personal belongings.

The couple’s primary bedroom is designed to evoke the feeling of a European hotel room and is beautifully furnished with eclectic pieces sourced directly from flea markets in Paris, according to Ripa. Meaningful and striking artwork is thoughtfully displayed around the home, which the couple has frequently noted is exceptional for hosting social gatherings, thanks to its sizable kitchen and comfortable living room areas.

“I don’t want to sound morbid, but they’ll have to carry me out of here feet first because I have gotten good and comfortable in this house,” Ripa joked during the home tour video.

Television hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are opening the doors of their New York City home to a new member of the family—an adorable puppy named Javi whom they recently adopted.
